WORKS THAT DEMAND ATTENTION AND BEG UNDERSTANDING

“In recent years Mr. Nierman has experimented further and developed and even more personal, dynamic and certainly emotional style in the medium of acrylics. He often sacrifices detail further than in his earlier works for the development of overall impact and pure self-expression. In these works, though the subject is always clear and present, textures, glazes, color and atmosphere take charge and the viewer is brought before and into a world which actually changes with every subtle change in the light which falls upon these paintings. It can safely be said that Mr. Nierman has found his world---a world not satisfied to be purely decorative or hang passively on a wall.”

PAINTER OF THE ELEMENTS

“Turning more to his own painting in the early 1970’s and working primarilly in oil and acrylic, we see affinities with the works of such artists as Monet, van Gogh and the debt owed to Impressionism. But what comes through is not a derivative art style, but rather one that is uniquely Mr. Nierman’s---a distillation of what is most stirring and emotional about these artists, combined into unique, vibrant canvases which demand and hold the attention while stimulating the senses through powerful color, constantly moving line, imaginative perspective and compositions. Two dimensional surfaces take on a third dimension through his rich use of pigment.”
